GREEN BUILDING ? A LOOK AT WATER EFFICIENCY AND WATERSENSE

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
The green building revolution is often touted with a focus on two subjects – energy efficiency and reduced emissions. While both are obviously important, the issue of water efficiency is one that should not be pushed aside. What is the greatest threat to our way of life in the next 100 years? The idea of oil depletion is certainly a concern. In synchronicity with this is the idea of climate change radically changing the planet. Both of these ideas have a certain glamour to them, if horrifically so, and garner the most media attention. There is, however, another problem that we are facing even now that gets little attention – water shortages. Cities such as Atlanta, San Diego and a host of others all are suffering through such shortages to one extent or another. How much water do you think you use .. more»

GREEN BUILDING TECHNIQUES TO SAVE YOU MONEY TODAY!

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Green building techniques aren't just for new construction... they're for every day home practice.  There are literally dozens of things the average homeowner can do to make his or her home a greener, more energy-efficient place in which to live, while at the same time saving money and helping the environment through reduced fossil fuel and electricity consumption.  And for the homeowner who's about to undertake a new project or major appliance purchase, there are several easy green building techniques to be made aware of before getting started.First and foremost, an energy efficient house begins with a good home building envelope.  The invisible seal between the inside and outside of a residence is also the wall between conditioned and unconditioned space, and this is where most energy loss occurs.  For every place that heating or cooling energy is escaping from a home, .. more»

WHAT GREEN BUILDING MEANS

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
There's a lot of talk in real estate about green building lately, but the phrase is still a little vague. Here's a guide to understanding a few key terms, so you can investigate whether or not a potential home is truly eco-friendly. Insulation and Building: Many new buildings are being insulated with recycled materials, such as old blue jeans or blown-in fiberglass. Proper insulation now goes a long way toward saving on energy bills later. Walls can be made of steel and concrete, rather than more expensive and volatile treated wood. Many cities have lumber yards and "re-stores" where you can buy recycled or left over building materials that are strong, cheap, and often antique or authentically vintage. Appliances: Look for low flow shower heads and low flush or composting toilets. Consider energy saving washers and dryers, or put a line in your yard .. more»

ENERGY GREEN BUILDING DESIGN KEEP THE PLANET SAFE AGAINST POLLUTION:

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Energy green building is still novice to many people around us. These are best for their less usage of energy, wastage produced by these building is nominal, and especially provides a greater healthy ambiance to the people who live in them.  Energy green buildings are brain child of eco-friendly environment and designed for ecological balance completely. This building depends on energy alternate and against using electricity and this way carbon waste can be kept at bay. This not only save your money through energy alternatives and energy savings but also takes you towards a great green world.   This is everyone's duty to cut their consumption of energy and depend upon energy alternatives like solar, wind and water. NASHVILLE TO HOST GREEN BUILDING CONFERENCE

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Nashville will soon be the hosting a conference aimed at encouraging builders, designers and community planners to think green in an effort to keep Tennessee's water clean. The conference, presented by the Kentucky Dept. for Environmental Protection and the Tennessee Dept. of Environment and Conservation, actually focuses on the water quality of the entire Southeast area, and seeks to inform officials of the benefits of considering the environment on every level of development, and what regulations they can implement to encourage this in their communities. By creating a dialogue between all levels involved, from architects to builders and contractors to rule-makers, the conference should be an excellent way to get everyone on the same page when it comes to our water conservation priorities. It could also generate some exciting new ideas. There are a variety of design aspects that can impact water. With .. more»

GREEN BUILDING WITH MOBILE AND MODULAR HOMES

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Do the words "mobile home" make you think of run down trailer parks and shoddy construction? After decades of earning a less-than-stellar reputation, the manufactured housing industry has upped its standards and is touting advancements in green building methods. Modular homes, which are typically constructed in sections inside climate controlled warehouses and then shipped to the building site for assembly, offer consumers construction standards  which are on par with or even better than many stick built homes. Modular builders usually have to adhere to local and state building codes and these homes are often subjected to the same lending guidelines as stick built properties.  Mobile home construction is regulated by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development and manufacturers seek compliance with Federal Manufactured Home Construction Safety Standards. Basically, the days of builders putting out an unregulated and unsafe product are .. more»

GREEN BUILDING DESIGN: A CONSCIOUS WAY TO CONSERVE ENERGY & OTHER RESOURCES IN COSTA RICA

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
With increasing efforts being made all over the world to reduce one's carbon footprint in the environment and to conserve energy, it should come as a no surprise to see significant development of green building designs in Costa Rica.Green building designs are eco-friendly designs that help sustain natural resources while reducing one's carbon footprint on the environment. Typically, a green home is a home designed which uses less energy by means of incorporating greater insulation in the house, use of LED energy conserving lights as well as maximizing natural ventilation so as not to depend on Air conditioning. A typical green house is also designed to collect all grey and black water from toilets, showers and washing machines to feed into a recycling tank where hard solids are naturally broken down and purified water is the end product. This recycled purified water .. more»

GREEN BUILDING

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Green building, also called green construction or sustainable building, is defined as the practice of creating structures using a process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle. When one is building green, they include the following: site, design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. Why are people looking into green building? Statistics have shown that homes built green are saving 39 percent of their total energy use, 12 percent of total water consumption, 68 percent of total electricity consumption and 38 percent of the carbon dioxide emissions.Statistics also show that the building sector accounts for 30 to 40 percent of global energy use. Over 80 percent of the environmentally harmful emissions from buildings are due to energy consumption during the time when the buildings are in use. With this knowledge, green building aims to reduce this impact. Green building could .. more»

CLIMATE CHANGE AND REAL ESTATE ? RISE OF GREEN BUILDINGS

No Comments, Green Building, by maureen.
Impacts of climate change for Real Estate sector in India   Green buildings are gaining momentum around the world, given their financial benefits and smaller environmental and resource use footprint. Energy insecurity, water scarcity, and climate change pose growing risks for the real estate sector India, yet the connections between these trends and financial impacts are not well understood by analysts, investors, companies, and governments. These issues will affect the risk and return associated with investments in (1) commercial building projects and (2) companies involved in commercial real estate development and investing. The limited energy and water infrastructure; rapidly growing demand for energy and water resources; and physical exposure and vulnerability to climate change impacts, all increase the likelihood and magnitude of financial impacts. Green building investments can minimize energy and water-related risks while achieving net positive returns in as few as three years.   Evaluating the .. more»
