APARTMENT PROPERTY MANAGERS FOCUS ON WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH SUB-METERING

No Comments, Water Conservation, by maureen.
Water conservation is a popular trend among municipalities, townships and through-out the multi-family apartment industry. In a three year study by the "National Multiple Family Submetering and Allocation Billing Program", the potential savings in the apartment sector from requiring residents to pay for their water consumption separately from their rent, found that billing residents for their water usage by direct metering could reduce annual water consumption by an average of 15 percent. This latest research supports the apartment industry's known fact that people always place greater value on things that they are responsible for financially. Not only do residents use less water when they are paying for it, but it also makes them more aware of the importance of immediately reporting plumbing leaks. A balanced and well implemented utility billing program is one of those rare issues that water companies, regulators, water .. more»

WATER CONSERVATION IN TEXAS: “IT’S EVERYONE’S JOB!”

No Comments, Water Conservation, by maureen.
I bought a new home here in Waco in May of 2008. One of the things that caused me to fall in love with the place was a lush lawn of St. Augustine grass. I'm something of a lawn junkie. I enjoy working outside and tending to it. Now, two and a half years later, I fully understand the ramifications for Texas water conservation of having that lawn. If I had built that house instead of buying it, I would not have chosen St. Augustine.   Now don't get me wrong. There are few things more visually pleasing to me than that lawn, thick and freshly trimmed. If my home was in say, Beaumont, where I worked in television three decades ago, it would be just fine. St. Augustine was developed in Florida for Gulf Coast climates and the rainfall that goes with it. .. more»
